National Technical Regulatory Framework​​

The Steering Committee on Technical Regulations has been set up by Government in June 2011 with the following Terms of Reference:
(1) to identify possible needs for technical regulations
(2) to participate in the acceptance of these technical regulations
(3) avoid publication of conflicting technical regulations
(4) to build consensus through a permanent and sustained technical dialogue with all stakeholders
(5) to formulate its opinions and make recommendations to Government regarding ratification and publication of technical regulations
(6) to provide inputs to WTO Notification Authority (The International Trade Division) with regard to modification of existing domestic technical regulations and on new
      draft technical regulations
(7) to facilitate exchange of information on existing technical regulations, draft regulation and future technical regulations amongst regulatory bodies and other
      stakeholders, and
(8) to advise Government on any draft technical regulation received from International or regional organizations’ regulations
 
The Steering Committee is chaired by the Director of Industry of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection.
Mauritius Standards Bureau provides secretarial support to the Committee.

(2) a representative of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities
(3) a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade
(4) a representative of the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security
(5) a representative of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development
(6) a representative of the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life
(7) a representative of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology
(8) a representative of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment
(9) a representative of the Attorney General’s Office
(10) a representative of the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives
(11) a representative of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (Customs Department)
(12) a representative of the Construction Industry Development  Board
(13) a representative of the Mauritius Accreditation Services
(14) a representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(15) a representative of the Mauritius Exporters Association and
(16) one representative of Consumer Organization
