Launching of the project on Certification and Training of SMEs in ISO 9001 and HACCP
The Mauritius Standards Bureau and SME Mauritius have jointly launched the project of Certification and Training for some 50 SMEs in ISO 9001 and HACCP on 2nd May 2019. An agreement had already been signed between the two institutions previously for the certification and training of these SMEs. The total cost of the scheme will amount to Rs 3.0 m. The MSB has been constantly involved in the Certification and Training activities for the SMEs as well as testing of food products manufactured by the SME.
For small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), standards can help to build customer confidence that your products are safe and reliable, meet Regulatory requirements, at a lower cost and reduce costs across all aspects of your business.
International Standards have a definite role to play in the removal of technical barriers to trade and in assisting enterprises in developing economies that are connected to global value chains. Implementing International Standards can help provide that confidence to improving Exports, which would have an impact on job creation and poverty alleviation in developing economies.
SMEs and organizations of all sizes can benefit from aligning their operations with ISO 9001 for quality management system. With respect to today’s competitive environment, quality is an important feature that enables companies to differentiate themselves from the competition.
For those SME’s involving in food products need to have an HACCP based procedures which provide businesses with a cost effective system for control of food safety, from ingredients right through to production, storage and distribution to sale and service of the final consumer. The SME certification scheme will help enterprises to acquire the training for implementing the Standard to ISO 9001 or to HACCP and also to the fund necessary for the Certification and its surveillance Audit by the Mauritius Standards Bureau.
